Aggravating Beauty

Agnes Burris and James Shirey

September 24 - October 24

Reception: September 24  6-10 p.m.

Shirey's work provides an unnatural look at the natural world.  His digital photographs of wildflowers and ice are often composed of multiple shots of a single subject taken at different layers of focus.  The exquisite detail of the resulting images are startling.  The texture and structure of these miniature worlds is revealed with a relentless, meticulous sensuality.  Shirey's photographs allow the viewer to experience natural imagery beyond the scope of the naked eye.

Strange Minds

Smith and Luce are two innovative artists whose work display psychological and emotional depth and maturity.  The show will engage patrons through interaction with both realism and abstraction.

Agnes Burris creates  stark, deceptively simple imagery.  Her stripped-down style is similar to that of self-taught artists and is evocative of “outsider art” in general.  In this exhibition of new work, portraits loom like effigies, the skies bristle with omens, and the terrible vastness of the universe is held in a tremulous black line on a  wash of color.
